STD Testing and Treatment

Sometimes called an STD, STI stands for “sexually transmitted infection.” STIs are infections that get passed from one person to another during sex. While STI is the more accurate term, we will use STD here since this is the term that most people use. Learn more here.

Many STDs have no symptoms, so people who are infected may not know they have an STD and unknowingly spread the infection to other people they have sex with. Lack of information, misconceptions, and social stigma may keep people from getting tested. Make an appointment to get tested at Planned Parenthood.

Why should I get tested for STDs?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that nearly half of all new cases of STDs each year occur in people between the ages of 15 and 24. The good news is we can protect ourselves and each other from STDs. Practicing safer sex allows you to reduce your risk of getting sexually transmitted infections. Make sure both you and your partner get tested before having sex, and use protection every time. Getting tested allows you to get any treatments you may need.
